FDA Will Soon Be Phasing Out Trans Fats in Processed Foods

Of all fats, trans fats are the worst. Medical experts hate trans fats for the double whammy they bring to our health. First, they increase the level of bad cholesterol in the bloodstream. As if that’s not bad enough, they also work to lower the levels of good cholesterol!

Also called trans fatty acids or partially hydrogenated oils, trans fats are used in commercial industries particularly in fast food chains because it’s cheap and long-lasting. It also produces a delicious taste in food. Not to mention, trans fats can be used numerous times in commercial fryers. As you can imagine, that basket of fries you love to have is actually loaded with dangerous trans fats.

Excessive consumption of foods rich in trans fats (think cookies, pastries, donuts, and fries) can shoot up the risk of heart disease. It’s definitely good news that the FDA will soon be banning this from the production of processed foods.
