Home Remedy for High Blood Pressure

high blood pressure

Did you know that about 70 million Americans suffer from elevated blood pressure level? What is thought to be a disease for the elderly actually affects teens and children as well, about 2 million of them.

Also called hypertension, high blood pressure refers to the condition in which arteries are on an elevated blood pressure. Blood pressure is the term used to describe the force of blood that pushes against the blood vessel walls everytime the heart pumps.

The higher the pressure, the stronger is the heart’s pumping. This medical condition can damage internal organs and cause other serious ailments including heart failure, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and aneurysm. According to UC Davis researchers, high blood pressure during 30s to 50s also ups the risk of cognitive decline.

What’s the normal blood pressure level? The ideal level is 120/80. 120 is the systolic measurement which refers to the “peak pressure in the arteries” while 80 is the diastolic measurement, the “minimum pressure in the arteries”.

About 95 percent of cases of hypertension have unknown causes. These are called essential hypertension. Those with a known direct cause (which can be anything from tumors to kidney diseases and so on) are called secondary hypertension.
