One of the best ways to start your day is with a cup of hot chocolate. There are many health perks to this popular morning routine. In a study conducted by researchers from Cornell University, it was discovered that the amount of antioxidants in hot cocoa is nearly twice as strong as red wine, three times stronger than green tea, and five times more than black tea.

That’s because chocolate releases more antioxidants when heated up. A cup contains over 600 mg of gallic acid equivalents (GAE), and over 560 mg of flavonoid epicatechin equivalents (ECE). Hot chocolate can therefore protect against a myriad of ailments including internal hemorrhage, albuminuria, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, among many others.
