Can’t live without sweets? Are you addicted to everything sugary like soda, pastries or cake? You’re not alone. Many people suffer from sugar addiction. Yes, there’s such a thing. Just like there’s smoking, alcohol or drug addiction, there are also people who are addicted to sugar.

There are various causes of sugar addiction, including insulin imbalance, unhealthy diet, eating disorder, adrenal fatigue, and premenstrual syndrome. To effectively get rid of this addiction, you need to consult your doctor to find out if there’s an underlying medical cause to this problem.

To help you combat sugar addiction, here are some of the measures that you have to undertake:

Up protein intake – Sometimes, the body thinks it needs sugar when what it really needs it protein. Consider eating lean meat or scrambled egg, or drink a full glass of milk and see if this keeps your cravings at bay.

Get rid of temptations – Don’t stock your pantry and refrigerator with ice cream, brownies, cookies and cakes. If you’re going grocery shopping, avoid spending too much time in the sections that sell sweet items.

Distract yourself – If you find yourself craving for a sweet dessert after every meal, why don’t you try taking a walk? Or read a book? Or watch a movie? Anything that makes you forget about the cookie you’ve been craving all day long can help.
